Fast Food Industry in China With the Chinese economy beginning to open up to the rest of theworld in 1979 and many foreign companies moving into China, fast food companies like Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and McDonald's were not to be left far behind. The modern fast food model was first established in China in April 1987 when KFC set up its first fast food restaurant in Beijing. Since then the fast food industry witnessed a rapid growth with an annual increase rate of about 20% and a profit margin of 15% to 25%... Burger King: A Brief History Burger King's first restaurant called 'Insta Burger King' was opened in 1954 at Miami, Florida. The proprietors, James McLamore (McLamore) and David Edgerton (Edgerton), were alumni of The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. In 1957, Burger King introduced its burger "Whopper" which went on to become one of the specialty items on its menu world over. In 1961, McLamore and Edgerton acquired national and international franchising rights... Burger King in China On June 28th 2005, Burger King opened its first outlet at Shanghai in China. This was 15 years after arch rivals McDonald's and 18 years after KFC had forayed into China. Both these chains, by that time, had an extensive network of restaurants and 'take away' joints across the country. Earlier in the same year, the Ministry of Commerce in China had enacted a new regulation on business franchising where in foreign concerns were required to run company-owned operations for at least a year before they were allowed to sell franchises... |
